Esports, or electronic sports, is organized video game competitions where players or teams compete against each other in various multiplayer video games. We treat it with the same dedication and passion as any other sport. Picture us like any traditional sports team—you've got your starting lineup, rigorous training sessions, and a desire to win. It's all about that competitive edge, striving for victory, and going for the gold, just like in any athletic pursuit. Esports brings together players and teams from various game genres, creating a vibrant and exciting community where we're all chasing our dreams of success. And like any sport, esports has captured the hearts of fans worldwide, with thrilling tournaments drawing huge crowds both online and in packed arenas.

How does the team prepare for competitions?

Our team employs a comprehensive approach to prepare for competitions, ensuring that we're consistently honing our skills and strategies. We start by conducting VOD reviews, analyzing our gameplay to identify areas for improvement and refine our strategies. Additionally, we dedicate time to aim training and studying professional gameplay to stay updated on current meta trends and techniques. Practice sessions are held at least three days a week, allowing us to fine-tune our teamwork and individual abilities. Furthermore, we arrange scrimmages with other schools in our conference and scrimmage internally to simulate real-game scenarios and enhance our competitive edge.

What training facilities or resources does the team have access to?

Our team benefits from exclusive access to our dedicated facility known as the Outpost, conveniently located on campus. The Outpost is equipped with six high-speed gaming computers featuring top-tier specifications and high-speed internet connectivity. Each computer is outfitted with essential peripherals, including a mouse pad, 60% keyboard, mouse, and headsets, ensuring optimal gaming performance. It's important to highlight that the Outpost is reserved solely for the varsity team, providing a focused and conducive environment for our players to train and prepare for competitions. Additionally, players are welcome to bring their own peripherals to customize their gaming experience.

What achievements has your team had in eSports competitions?

Our team has achieved significant milestones in esports competitions, demonstrating our skill and dedication on multiple fronts. In our debut year (Spring 2023), our Overwatch team excelled, reaching the semi-finals and securing an impressive 3rd place. Likewise, our Rocket League team showcased their talent, earning a spot in the semi-finals and claiming 3rd place (Fall 2023). In the Spring of 2024, our Overwatch Flame team elevated our success further, advancing to the finals to compete in Aiken South Carolina and securing a commendable 2nd place, solidifying our position as a competitive force in the esports arena.

What is the eligibility criteria for joining the team?

The eligibility criteria for joining the team requires students to be full-time Florida State University Panama City students and in good academic standing. Additionally, we look for students who possess good character and a positive attitude to try out for the team.
