Comm Club to Host ‘80s Prom Gone Bad’ Murder Mystery Dinner Event
Prepare to travel back in time to the 1980s for a prom night filled with mystery, mayhem—and music. The Communication Club at Florida State University Panama City will host a murder mystery dinner on the theme, “80s Prom Gone Bad,” from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, April 14, in the Holley Center Lecture Hall at FSU PC, 4750 Collegiate Drive.
The event is free for FSU PC and Gulf Coast State College students and only $15 cash or Venmo at the door for non-students. Dress in your best ’80s attire and prepare to solve a thrilling murder mystery while enjoying a delicious pasta bar catered by Olive Garden, set to the soundtrack of every ’80s teen movie.
I have never been to a murder mystery party before, but I grew up doing theater and jumped at the opportunity to contribute to the ‘80s prom,” said Emma Cook, spokesperson for the club.
The Communications Club is a recognized student organization whose goal is to assist students in professional development and social networking. It is open to communication majors as well as any student interested in the communication field.
“Every year, the Communications Club puts together large events on campus for students,” said Laurie Lawrence, Ph.D., the club’s faculty advisor. “This will be their third murder mystery dinner event.”
Previous mysteries included Dracula’s Birthday and Murder at Mardi Gras. In recent years, the club has also hosted the largest toy drive on campus for Toys for Tots; hosted a luau on the back lawn where all student organizations participated; and assisted in hosting a scholarly Crisis in Ukraine panel discussion.
“I am really looking forward to seeing all the students and faculty having fun,” Cook said. “The song I am most looking forward to hearing is ‘I Want to Dance with Somebody’ by Whitney Houston. It is one of my all-time favorites.”
